About

Raiz is an urban farming technology company, founded in Lisbon in 2022.

We design, build, and operate automated indoor farms that bring fresh food production inside the spaces where people live, work, and eat — hotels, restaurants, offices, and urban communities.

The word “Raiz” means root in Portuguese. It reflects what we're building: a foundation for a cleaner, more connected food system — one that puts the source of food back in sight.

What We Do

Raiz operates at the intersection of technology, bio-design, and agriculture. We develop modular vertical farming systems — hardware paired with our own operating software — that allow high-quality, pesticide-free crops to be grown year-round in any indoor environment.

Our product portfolio spans two distinct pillars: Ortus, a compact farmwall unit for hospitality and consumer spaces; and Eden Farms, our controlled environment agriculture system for commercial growers and nursery operations.

Operating since 2022, we have produced over 1 tonne of clean, high-quality crops — growing for Michelin-starred chefs and community partners alike.

Emiliano Gutiérrez

Founder & CEO

Emiliano is a serial entrepreneur with a background in renewable energy and blockchain. Before Raiz, he built a distributed energy resources digitalisation company in Latin America and worked across the Australian energy system — where he identified energy cost as the critical leverage point for a new hybrid farming model.

He first encountered vertical farming in 2017 while leading an innovation programme in New York. When global supply chain shocks in 2021 made clear that food security could no longer be taken for granted, he returned to that idea — and founded Raiz in Lisbon the following year.
